The “School Ready” child is…

  • Socially and Emotionally Ready: A school ready child can get along with others, can express feelings, is confident in his or her abilities and excited about learning.
  •  Cognitively Ready: A school ready child is familiar with books, letters, sounds, shapes, colors, and numbers, capable of tackling new and challenging tasks, engages in problem solving and able to communicate with others.
  • Physically Ready: A school ready child has accessed comprehensive and preventative health care services, can care for his or her personal needs, complete small tasks like using scissors or drawing, and can make big movements like running, jumping and skipping.
